Honest Reviews

Food Exploring ft SSAM - Holloway Road

Beyond BiBimBap: A K-BBQ Experience  Hidden in the underrated food hub of Holloway Road lies "SSAM" a Korean BBQ restaurant. This is a hole-in-the-wall small restaurant not yet discovered but viral tiktok food reviewers (but could be a strong contestant, so get there quick!) This review will be featuring the iconic Professor and Mother Houlihan Wiberg.  Credits to Sam Aberman for contributing to the outside photos (as I forgot!)  Ambience Located across from London Met University on the busy Holloway Road is the lively and bustling small restaurant SSAM. It has a very simple design when you walk in and lacks in the atmospheric music and lighting department, but this is when you know they have just focused on the food! We were met with the smiley face of our waitress and got menus and service almost immediately (even on a Friday night). Since it is Bring Your Own Booze the table next to us was having a lot of fun and created a community atmosphere in the restaurant. ...

Pub Exploring ft The Woodbine - London

Guinness and Green Curry: A Delightful Surprise in North London

Exploring pubs in London has been an expensive but fun adventure. This Irish Pub located a 10 min walk from Arsenal station or Finsbury Park station was an unexpected pub adventure success. The second my housemates and I walked in we knew that this gem had to be featured on the blog!

Ambiance:

Walking in from the subthermal cold winter outside, we were met with a warm and cozy atmosphere, subtle lighting, and a classic pub design.  A cute smokers area was located out the back with outdoor heaters and music included!

Prices:

As with all London pubs, a loan must be taken out to buy a pint. Unfortunately, this was no different for their drinks. With a specialty in Guinness, they offered alcoholic and non-alcoholic Guinness at standard London prices of £5-6 ish. The Guinness was "very good" according to Alex Williams (A London local).
NO STUDENT DISCOUNT btw

The Food:

Now this is where the surprise was. A Thai kitchen is located in the Irish pub! The food was y u m m y and excellent value, a main dish for £13.90 and sides for £6.95. I ordered a tofu pad khing and my friends got the fishcakes, gyozas, and chicken skewers. Feedback from everyone was an 8/10 (Yasmin Mahmud and Adithri Pradeep). Service was ok and the lady was quite busy, but the food made up for it.

Pub Quiz:

We were extra lucky to be involved in the pub quiz which happens every Tuesday. £2.00 per person and a £40 bar tab for first place. Unfortunately, we came very much last place by 80 points, which was appropriate for our team "we need to revise more".

Conclusion:

Overall this was an amazing adventure and we would all recommend it for a cozy pub exploration. Good food and cute vibes, and a nice location for a Guinness or Thai food!
