Honest Reviews

Food Exploring ft SSAM - Holloway Road

Beyond BiBimBap: A K-BBQ Experience  Hidden in the underrated food hub of Holloway Road lies "SSAM" a Korean BBQ restaurant. This is a hole-in-the-wall small restaurant not yet discovered but viral tiktok food reviewers (but could be a strong contestant, so get there quick!) This review will be featuring the iconic Professor and Mother Houlihan Wiberg.  Credits to Sam Aberman for contributing to the outside photos (as I forgot!)  Ambience Located across from London Met University on the busy Holloway Road is the lively and bustling small restaurant SSAM. It has a very simple design when you walk in and lacks in the atmospheric music and lighting department, but this is when you know they have just focused on the food! We were met with the smiley face of our waitress and got menus and service almost immediately (even on a Friday night). Since it is Bring Your Own Booze the table next to us was having a lot of fun and created a community atmosphere in the restaurant. ...

Coffee Exploring ft. The Waiting Room - Deptford

Bagel & Brews: Vegan Vibes in Deptford

Hidden under a bridge along the iconic Deptford High Street (a must visit!) lies this quirky vegan cafe called The Waiting Room.  My Deptford tour guide was Bath legend and fine artist/ film producer Katy Creese!

Atmosphere:

We were met by a warm vibe and buzzing atmosphere when walking in. A very popular cafe but we did eventually get a seat! lots of quirky decorations and friendly staff. Opening its doors in 2011 and facing a slow start, this cafe was certainly popular in 2025. We spoke with the man at the til and after further research realised he was the founder of the cafe and a former tattoo artist.

You can read more about startup of the cafe with this link below:

Coffee:

The important part of this review (of course). We ordered two iced lattes (needing to cool down the steaming hangover), and we had amazing service and patience as we decided on our order. Katy got a chicken (vegan) bagel as well. I asked about the  NHS/ student discount (for all my skint readers) and was actually offered a free coffee instead while trying to find my NHS card! Thank you so much Mr. Coffee Shop Owner!!

The coffee was great and hit the spot. Chicken Bagel was a bit mushy as many vegan meat substitutes are, but Katy said she would recommend the other chicken burger instead from previous experience.

Conclusion:

If you are blessed enough to be on the Deptford High Street this would be a strong recommendation 100%. Definitely pop by and support your local businesses :)
